"At very short notice to have a Bagpipe Player at our Kirking Service at Greyfriars Kirk on Saturday 30th April 2016, we asked Neil MacPhail if he could come along and play for us.
He contacted us right away to say that he would be pleased to play for us and that he would have an early visit to become familiar with the Kirk and in particular the part of the Service that we take at the grave of Mary Erskine.
Whilst we were preparing for the Deacon Convener and Deacons of all the Trades and the banner bearers to parade along to the Kirk, Neil played outside Greyfriars Bobby's Statue to a crowd of interested onlookers.
He then led us up to the Greyfriars Kirk and pipes us into the Kirk.
Following the Service, we were then led by Neil up to the gates of the Covenanter's Grave Yard and down to the Mary Erskine Grave playing Sarah's Song, at the end of the Service, Neil then led us back to the Kirk playing Annie's Song.
The Incorporated Trades of Edinburgh, the Lord Provost and Deacons and visitors to the Kirking Service have all spoken to us about how pleased they were, and how much our day was made so enjoyable by Neil's playing.
He will be invited to play for us at our other functions during the Year" - The Incorporated Trades of Edinburgh Annual "Kirking Service" at Greyfriars Kirk, 30th April 2016
